What is Boys State?
Tennessee American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. Founded in 1935, it is a participatory program where each delegate becomes a part of the operation of local, county, and state government.
Participants are exposed to the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical—city, county, and state governments are operated by students elected to various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, and assemblies.
The Samsung American Legion Scholarship
Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea's aid during its struggle against communist forces. The scholarship is restricted to high school juniors who attend the current session of either an American Legion Boys State or Auxiliary Girls State program and are a direct descendant of a wartime U.S. military veteran.

Post 40 Sponsorship
High school juniors are selected to attend by local American Legion Posts. American Legion Post 40 actively seeks and sponsors delegates from Cheatham County. We assist with the selection process and work to ensure registration expenses are covered by the Post or local community partners.
3 Steps to Apply:
- 1 Ensure you are currently a High School Junior in Cheatham County.
- 2 Contact Post 40 immediately to secure your sponsorship and interview.
- 3 Complete the official TNALBS registration forms before May 19th.
